Hiker Grab your hiking boots and enjoy a scenic gondola ride to 5,700 feet! Two trails start right from the gondola and offer vistas of three states and Canada. The East Ridge Nature Trail is a meandering 3-mile ridge top loop, while the Kellogg Peak Trail takes a more direct route right to the fire lookout at the highest point in the region. Keep an eye out for deer, elk, eagles, and huckleberries along the trail.

East Ridge Nature Trail

The East Ridge Trail is a 3-mile loop with mile markers along the way. Starting at the trailhead located at the lower end of the Mountain Amphitheater, the East Ridge Trail provides you with an enjoyable walk to a secluded area of Silver Mountain.

The trail is classified as moderate in difficulty with a moderate slope. Fourteen stations have been established along the way highlighting the vegetation encountered along the route.

Initially, the trail winds through the trees to an open vista of the Coeur d'Alene River to the north. Over the past 1.2 billion years, the river has carved through the mountains along the Osburn Fault to form the valley. To the south, the view includes Kellogg Peak, several of the resort's runs, and a view towards the mountain ridges of Central Idaho.

Kellogg Peak Fire Lookout

The Kellogg Peak Fire Lookout Trail is an intermediate trail. The trail gains 870 feet in 1.85 miles one way and offers spectacular 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains from a reproduction of the original 1935 Forest Service fire lookout at the peak. Wild flowers, deer, elk, huckleberries and hawks coasting on thermals are common sights on Kellogg Peak. Don't forget your camera!
